The Dark Horse of the 2012 GOP Primary

The man who can end traffic stop slavery and heal a divided nation.

Somebody finally got around to polling (PDF) the all-important matchup between President Barack Obama and Tennessee’s very own son, Basil Marceaux, and by God, it looks like he’s actually got a shot at the White House.

As it turns out, despite low favorables and most people having never heard of him, Basil Marceaux is presently polling a larger share of the vote than Ross Perot was able to muster in 1992.

Down the line Obama is doing better in this month’s 2012 poll, leading every match up after trailing in most of them a month ago. Romney and Mike Huckabee come the closest, both down by three points. It’s a 47-44 contest against Huckabee. Obama leads Sarah Palin 49-43, Newt Gingrich 49-42, and Chris Christie 47-31.

Even though Obama has negative approval numbers with independents he leads every potential GOP foe with them.

Finally the gold fringed flag and traffic stops may live to die another day in American society. Voters nationwide aren’t any more inclined to let Basil Marceaux do his issues than the ones in Tennessee were last week- Obama leads the youtube sensation 46-21 in a hypothetical contest.

This even though his favorability rating is in the single digits:

Q7 Do you have a favorable or unfavorable opinion of Basil Marceaux?
Favorable……………………………………………….. 3%
Unfavorable ……………………………………………. 16%
Not sure …………………………………………………. 81%

The good news, however, is that if he can get all the undecideds to break his way, he wins!

Q14 If the candidates for President in 2012 were Basil Marceaux and Barack Obama, who would you vote for?
Basil Marceaux ……………………………………….. 21%
Barack Obama………………………………………… 46%
Undecided………………………………………………. 33%

If we assume that the 46% for Obama are all Democrats, then if this poll is to be believed, Basil Marceaux enjoys the support of two fifths of Republicans. That’s more than John McCain had going for him right before the Iowa Caucus.

And just in case you were wondering, no, these people aren’t high. The pollsters are already one step ahead of you.

Q23 Have you ever smoked Marijuana? If yes, press 1. If no, press 2. If you don’t care to say, press 3.
Yes ……………………………………………………….. 27%
No …………………………………………………………. 63%
N/A………………………………………………………… 11%

This poll shows that Basil Marceaux is a credible candidate for president, and has just as much right to seek the nomination as Tom Tancredo, Ron Paul, or Rudy Giuliani did in 2008, none of whom could match these numbers.

Do it, Mr. Marceaux. Make Tennessee proud.
