Rush Limbaugh Hospitalized with Chest Pains
Limbaugh, 58, suffered from chest pains, sources said. Limbaugh was sitting in a chair in his ninth-floor hotel room at the Kahala when emergency crews arrived, sources said. He told medical crews that he was taking medication for a back problem, sources said.
Paramedics treated him and took him to Queen’s Medical Center in serious condition. He will not be released from the hospital on Wednesday night, sources said.
Officials with the Rush Limbaugh Program released a statement Wednesday night.
“Rush was admitted to and is resting comfortably in a Honolulu hospital today, after suffering chest pains. Rush appreciates your prayers and well wishes, and he will keep you updated via RushLimbaugh.com.”
According to his website, the worst is over.
ALERT: Rush was admitted to a Honolulu hospital today and is resting comfortably after suffering chest pains. Rush appreciates your prayers and well wishes. He will keep you updated via RushLimbaugh.com and on Thursday’s radio program.
Please remember that Jesus exhorts us to love our enemies, no matter how vile they may be, so let’s all hope and pray that not only does Mr. Limbaugh makes a speedy recovery, but that this brush with mortality causes him to realize the error of his ways. (Yeah, I know, I know.)
Right-Wingers Freak Out Over Lone Nut
Based on a web report from Eyewitness News, no small number of right-wing blogs are freaking out because some jackass from Binghampton allegedly threatened to wage jihad on a few gas stations, or as we know it here in Memphis, just another crazy person.
Tonight, Mohamed Ibrahim is out after posting $100 bond. Earlier in the day, he was arrested after police say he walked into several Memphis businesses and threatened to blow them up.
Court records show Ibrahim was also telling people he was Muslim, and wanted to start a jihad, or holy war, in Memphis.
Here’s what the more patriotic among us have to say about it:
The judge is either blind, deaf and dumb, an Islamist, a Democrat or a Muslim.
Clearly this far-seeing and right-thinking judge understands that Islam is a Religion of Peace™, and that therefore this man only intended to butcher his sinful inclinations, as part of his inner spiritual struggle to conform his life to the will of Allah.
Is it just me, or is there a recent uptick in black Muslims causing trouble nowadays?
This apocalyptic “reporter’s note” is simply priceless:
Reporter’s note: It is clear that our political leaders as well as many judges still do not understand the threat posed by the radical Muslim world. Our politicians and law enforcement officials seem to believe that the policy of appeasement will work with murderers. They are mistaken and if we do not wake them up to this fact…We will have no nation left to defend!
Holy warriors, Batman! Get Winston Churchill on the phone! Wake up, sheeple!
Although the Commercial Appeal reported essentially the same details, there is some discrepancy here. According to the Shelby County Sheriff’s office website, one Mohamed Ibrahim is presently sitting in jail on terrorism charges with a bond set at $50,000, not the $100 that’s been reported. He is scheduled to appear in court later this morning.

It’s certainly not outside the realm of possibility that the SCSO’s website (as well as the courthouse’s, which appears to show the same thing) wasn’t updated over the Christmas weekend or contains some error. But even if this guy is out walking the streets, I’m going to make a guess that Mohamed Ibrahim is about as much of an al-Qaeda terrorist as I am a Catholic Cardinal.
When I was living in the University area, I met some of these supposedly Islamic hoodies from Binghampton. They were the kind of guys with tattoos of the word “Jihad.” In other words, they were a bunch of antisocial wannabes who called themselves jihadists because they thought it sounded scary. The people who were actually trying to worship at the mosque in that neighborhood were constantly trying to get rid of them. I’d wager this guy doesn’t even belong to a mosque at all, much less some sleeper cell.
All that aside, we’re talking about a guy with a butcher knife up his sleeve threatening to blow up random East Memphis gas stations on Christmas Day. Not an airplane, not a skyscraper, but the corner dine and dash. That’s not an attack on Western civilization, it’s the behavior of a disturbed individual. To his credit, though, if he was trying to scare people, he certainly frightened the wingnuts.
I suppose they have a point. Between the threat to democracy posed by this dude and the attack on our freedoms from that other guy who set his balls on fire, how can Liberty survive?
Oh Look, a Liberal
It’s not often you see an elected Democrat promoting actual liberalism, so it’s worth noting when one does:
“It provided some much-needed help to residents who were struggling to make ends meet, and it helped clean up our neighborhoods,” said [Memphis City Councilman* Harold] Collins. “Those are things government can do if it is done right.”
It’s pretty sad that this even needs to be pointed out.
*Thanks to LWC for catching my brain fart.
Troll the Ancient Yuletide Carol
Bob Corker knows where he’s going to be on Christmas morning, and it won’t be home with his family.
Democrats will have to put up 60 votes again Tuesday morning for a procedural vote on Reid’s underlying, 2,074-page bill. A last 60-vote hurdle awaits Wednesday, and final passage of the legislation – requiring a simple majority – is set for late Thursday, Christmas Eve, if Republicans take all the available time. As of Monday they said they would.
“I am willing to stay here. The flight that I have is Christmas morning, and I don’t plan on changing that reservation,” Sen. Bob Corker, R-Tenn., told reporters after a meeting of GOP senators. “We potentially are getting ready to pass a bill that there’s no question in my mind is going to lead to huge deficits down the road.”
Democrats have the 60 votes to break the filibuster. The only difference it makes is whether the vote takes place now or on Thursday, which is Christmas Eve.
Truly, this is the spirit of Christmas.
A Moment of Zen
I liked David Waldman’s response [to the Nelson compromise]. The problem with leaving the decision up to the states, he says, is that it doesn’t go far enough. “I think states should leave the abortion question up to the counties,” he explains. “Then I think counties should leave the abortion question up to municipalities. Then the neighborhoods should leave the abortion question up to each block.” And each block, as you might have guessed, should leave the abortion question up to each household.
Thinking Too Hard About Health Care Will Make You Sick
While it’s difficult to find much of a silver lining in the compromise bill before the Senate, it’s becoming clearer with each passing day that it’s going to pass cloture. No senator from the Democratic caucus, from the right or the left, has signaled that they will vote against the bill in its present form. It now remains to be seen what House members can accomplish in either reconciliation (unlikely) or in conference committee.
With that said, I’d like to take this moment to point out a curious historical fact, and by “curious” I mean “will make you want to tear your hair out.”
A super majority of the U.S. Senate has already voted once within this decade to create and fund a nationalized, universal, single payer health care system. Enshrined within that system is a clear acknowledgement that health care is a right, not a privilege. Both Republicans and Democrats, including Joe Lieberman, have voted to create and furnish U.S. taxpayer dollars for this system at nearly every step of the way.
In case you haven’t already guessed, I’m referring to the national health care system of Iraq.
First: Every citizen has the right to health care. The State shall maintain public health and provide the means of prevention and treatment by building different types of hospitals and health institutions.
Second: Individuals and entities have the right to build hospitals, clinics,or private health care centers under the supervision of the State, and this shall be regulated by law.
[Constitution of Iraq, Article 31]
Lest you think this is some aberration, something the Iraqis snuck in themselves, here is the what the Coalition Provisional Authority under Paul Bremmer set up as the law of the land after the invasion.
Article 14. The individual has the right to security, education, health care, and social security. The Iraqi State and its governmental units, including the federal government, the regions, governorates, municipalities, and local administrations, within the limits of their resources and with due regard to other vital needs, shall strive to provide prosperity and employment opportunities to the people.
Not only have these senators who supported the invasion and occupation of Iraq voted to support and help maintain a foreign single payer health care system, but American troops have died for the cause.
Now, I don’t begrudge anything against the Iraqi people, but someone needs to ask the question: Why do Americans have to sacrifice blood and treasure to provide a single payer system to the Iraqis when we can’t get Congress to even talk about it here?
